This month I'm reviewing ProKalm, a calming supplement from Science Supplements.
When I was a teenager with excitable event horses I had tried a few different calmers but never found any of them really did anything for my horses. Fast forward to 2019, Wodan and I are a few hours from going down the centre line in the main arena at Royal Windsor Horse Show to lead a Young Riders Quadrille and perform in front of 15000 and the Queen. Zelina Coffey who works for Science Supplements said I must try a ProKalm syringe. I administered this 2 hours before we were due in the main arena. The atmosphere at Windsor is insane and the exposure to things your horse has never seen before can be mind blowing. We performed for 3 nights and every night used one of the syringes. What was so noticeable was the difference in the softness of Wodan's muscles. He felt more consistently through and very rideable. He never felt behind my leg or inattentive. We also have a wonderful 6 year old mare who is competing at Elementary and Medium, she is so willing to please that she can sometimes get a bit ahead of herself at shows. I attended a British Dressage show at Hickstead, our first test was at 10.30 am and our second test was at midday. On our way, I stopped off at Clackett's Services to give her the syringe of Prokalm at around 8.30am. Our first test was respectable but I could feel she was still a little worried about her new surroundings. When I got back on to warm up for our second test at 11.30, Boom! The calmer had worked! Fame felt very relaxed through her muscles and felt like she had more time to breathe. The third horse we tried the supplement on is a lovely mare that gets nervous travelling in her lorry so stamps and sweats up. Again we tried the syringe, we drove to Oldencraig to compete and to our surprise, she hadn't sweated up at all! I thought this may also be due to the recent increase in her work making her more settled and less over the top about life! So when she travelled back to her owner's yard a couple of days later from ours we didn't give her any of the calmer. I was surprised to hear that she had sweated up and stamped on the way home! What I love about this supplement is that it doesn't numb them or make them behind your leg. You can feed as a one off syringe if your horse only needs some help at a show or you can feed as a daily supplement of your horse needs to relax in their everyday surroundings.
